It is exactly one year, today, 9th February when the Father of the Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Alhaji Yusuf Buratai passed on.

By this time last year, Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, was plunged into grief following the death of this illustrious citizen of the world. Mourners from across the country besieged Maiduguri to condole the bereaved family and people of Borno.

Late Baba Buratai, as he was popularly known, was a world war ii veteran when he served the West African Army in 1942.

For many years after he has served the country, he continued to live a peaceful life as an elder statesman, a kindhearted community leader and devout Muslim.

Till dates the neighbourhood of his residence along Baga road still misses his frankness, sense of discipline, fatherly admonition and amity

Kareem's Pick Blog, in it's novel tradition of reminiscing historic days and monumental personalities through its #DayInHistory platform, has decided to remember this great man and his inestimably valued service to country.

May Allah Grant him paradise.
